Workshop on Scientific Archives in Medical History

ABOUT

The Committee on the Archives of Science and Technology of the International Council on Archives is organizing the Fourth Workshop on Scientific Archives, scheduled for June 5-6, 2024, at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Library. This in-person workshop aims to gather a diverse community involved in the management of contemporary scientific and technological archives.

Workshop Details:

Day 1 – June 5, 2024:

  • Features traditional presentations centered around the theme of open archives and open science.
  • Topics include partnerships between scientists and archivists, barriers to creating open archives, gaps in scientific archives, practices for increasing equity, the intersection of scientific archives with digital and health humanities, AI, data-driven collections, professional skill development, challenges in collaborative science, and opportunities for engagement with scientific collections.

Day 2 – June 6, 2024:

  • Conducted as an “unconference,” allowing participants to set the agenda based on the previous day's discussions.
  • Focuses on sharing challenges, developing solutions, generating ideas, and building partnerships without needing prior proposal submissions.

Call for Proposals:

  • Open to archivists, historians, scientists, engineers, data specialists, curators, and others.
  • Presentations will be 20 minutes each, with a focus on the global context of scientific archives.
  • Proposals must include a 400-word abstract and a bibliography and be submitted by January 5, 2024.
  • Selected speakers will be notified by February 10, 2024, with the full program published in early March 2024.
  • Limited travel funds are available, with applications open between February and March 2024.
