12th Meeting of the International Society for the History of Medicine

ABOUT
The 12th Meeting of the International Society for the History of Medicine (ISHM) is scheduled to take place from October 15 to 17, 2025, at Nebrija University in Madrid, Spain. This event, themed "Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue," aims to explore the multifaceted history of medicine across different cultures and eras. The meeting is organized by the ISHM in collaboration with the Francisco Vallés Institute of Clinical Ethics and Nebrija University. Additional support comes from esteemed institutions such as the Pan-American Academy of the History of Medicine, the Association of Fundamental and Clinical Bioethics (Spain), the Permanent Seminar for Research on the History of Nursing (Spain), the Royal Academy of Medicine (Spain), the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine, the National Association of Forensic Physicians (Spain), Complutense University of Madrid, San Pablo CEU University, and the European University of Madrid.
Program Highlights. The conference will feature a series of sessions and round tables focusing on diverse topics, including:
- Dialogue between the three cultures: Christian, Arab/Islamic, and Jewish medicine
- The legacy of Pedro Laín Entralgo
- History of nursing and bioethics
- Commemoration of the fifth centenary of Valverde de Amusco
- Medical dictionaries and their historical significance
- Perspectives on death throughout history
- Histories of American and Asian medicine
- Research involving human subjects
- Teaching history within health sciences
- Imaginary futures in medical history
Call for Communications. Researchers and scholars are invited to submit abstracts for presentations, lectures, posters, and round tables. Abstracts must be submitted by July 31, 2025, to meetinthistmed25@gmail.com. Each presentation is allocated a maximum of 12 minutes. Authors will be notified of acceptance by the same date. The official languages of the conference are English, French, and Spanish. To ensure accessibility, simultaneous subtitled translations will be provided during sessions.
