Format 8vo. Volume I: 22.4x15.2x2.7 cm, 633 g, iv Content and text in 528 pages; Volume II: 22.2x15.2x3.1 cm, 795 g, 1168 pages and 1 nn Errata page. Linen hardcover. The original brown colour of the boards and spin has faded to khaki in exposed areas. Tears and wears. Spine has gilt embossed lettering: Kriegschirurgie von Pirogoff I. and Kriegschirurgie von Pirogoff II. respectively.

Footnote
Friedrich Jutzler, the head physician at the Schopfheim Hospital, has rendered great service to the people of Schopfheim and the surrounding area for decades, which is why the city named him an honorary citizen in 1947. In 2021, however, evidence emerged that he had carried out forced sterilizations on physically or mentally ill people between 1934 and 1945 in line with National Socialism on the basis of the so-called “Erbgesundheitsgesetz” (Law on Hereditary Health) – like many German and Austrian doctors in that dark time.
