ABOUT

Zahnmuseum Linz

After extensive renovation, the Zahnmuseum (Museum of Dental History and Dental Technology) of the city of Linz has reopened its doors in the Old Town Hall building at Hauptplatz 1 (Main Square) on the 6th of October 2025. Although the exhibition is located under the vaulted arches of a medieval building, the exhibition halls have a modern architectural design and are located on the first and basement floors. Here you can see unique exhibits, among which the most interesting are the workplaces of dentists and dental technicians from the 18th century onwards. The Altwiener Nobelpraxis (Old Viennese noble practice) with a black armchair and marble spittoon, dating from around 1900 and Siemens Reiniger Behandlungseinheit (Treatment unit by Siemens Reiniger, a predecessor of the Siemens Healthineers AG) circa 1923 with built-in examination spot, early electrosurgical unit and accompanying instrument cabinet with marble top are some examples of the valuable exhibits at the museum's collection.

The museum is accessible to people with disabilities (barrier-free). Another unique feature of the museum is that it is not only free to visit, but also has no staff. The doors on photocells open automatically when you approach, and you can enter the museum and learn it's exposition independently, without being accompanied by museum staff. The absence of ticket queues and the free admission, combined with its central location, make it a wonderful and convenient addition to any tourist visit to Linz, whether you are on a cruise ship or just passing through this remarkable historic Austrian city.
