Author: Matthäus Gottfried Purmann, surgeon and city physician in Breslau (today the Polish city of Wrocław, in 17 century a fortified trading city under Habsburg rule, part of the Kingdom of Bohemia). The later edition published in Frankfurt and Leipzig by Michael Rohrlach, bookseller in Liegnitz, 1708. The title page of the book contains following German text:

Der rechte und wahrhafftige Feldscher/ Oder/ Die rechte und warhafftige Feldschers-Kunst Worinnen Kuͤrzlich doch grundrichtig an- gewieſen wird/ wie man alle Verletzun- gen des gantzen menschlichen Coͤrpers, (nebſt noch einigen Kranckheiten so im Felde grassiren) sie ha- ben Nahmen wie sie wollen/ durch wasserley Jnstrumen- ta sie auch verursacht; Vollkoͤmmlich erkennen/ deren vielfaͤltigen Zufaͤlle verhindern/ und in kurtzer Zeit gluͤcklich curiren koͤnne; Umb also wuͤrdig zu wer- den/ ein rechter und wahrhafftiger Feldscherer zu heissen. in 4. Theile abgetheilet. Und allen der Edlen Wundartzney aufrichti- gen Liebhabern zugefallen an Tag gegeben/ von Mattheus Gotfried Purmannen. Jn Halberstadt verlegts Joh. Erasmus Hynitzsch/ 1680. 

Title translated in English: The Right and True Field Surgeon/ Or / The Right and True Art of the Field Surgeon In which is briefly but thoroughly explained how to treat all injuries to the entire human body, (along with some diseases that are prevalent in the field) by whatever name they may be called, through water instruments that also cause them; completely recognize, prevent their many complications, and in a short time happily cure them; in order to thus become worthy of being called a true and genuine surgeon. Divided into 4 parts. And given to all sincere lovers of noble surgery by Mattheus Gotfried Purmannen. Published in Halberstadt by Joh. Erasmus Hynitzsch, 1680.

The present copy contents the book "Der aufrichtige und erfahrne Pest-Barbierer..." ( The sincere and experienced plague barber) of the same author.

Condition: Good. Contemporary vellum binding. Dimensions: 16 x 10.2 x 4.6 cm; weight 399 g. Engraved frontispiece. Collation: 31 nn pages + 480 pages + 22 nn pages (Register) + 208 pages of the "Pest Barbierer" bound in at the end.
